Two Deep: Hokies Under the Influence Podcast

Two Deep is a college football podcast focused on the Virginia Tech Hokies that was started in 2015.  Hosted by Pete Bertheaud and Robbie Dowling, the show features news and updates, weekly game recaps and previews, exciting guests from other VT / ACC / national media, in-depth analysis, and fan perspective.  We also enjoy different craft beers each week from across the nation in search of the perfect pour.

The intent of Two Deep is to compile news and relevant information for fellow VT fans, at home or on the go.  We don't attempt to provide breaking news on the team - - just focus on getting all the important news for our listeners.  Our goal is to provide in-depth previews and recaps of VT games, selectively target unique hosts with great local and national insight, engage the fan base, and enjoy a few good beers while we are at it.

If you are looking for a laid-back podcast where the drama of college sports is kept to a minimum, check us out.  Go Hokies!

Podcast Hosts

Robbie Dowling

Robbie graduated VT in 2005 with a B.S. in Finance and Management.  He and Pete always had a few things in common, well maybe just two - - Hokie football and good beer.  He considers himself a jack of many trades, and a master on none.  He has followed VT football more and more closely over the last ~15 years.

Robbie works in finance for a government contractor, has a wife and baby that put up with recording at home, and a Husky named Kota who makes background appearances on the show from time to time (to the chagrin of the hosts' one-take recording style).

Robbie's take on Two Deep: "We are not X&Os experts, we do not break news, and we certainly aren't striving to become a big time podcast.  Personally, I envisioned Two Deep could fill a gap I thought existed; a down-to-earth, honest, and laid-back podcast focused on creating what we wanted to hear - a couple of fans talking Hokie football.  Some Hokie fans commute, perhaps travel a lot, or have working-class jobs.  The diversity of the VT fan base is what I think makes it so incredible.  I wanted to make sure that every fan has access a medium, whichever works best for them, to stay up-to-date on VT football."

Pete Bertheaud

Pete finished VT with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2006.  After taking a job with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Pete moved to the DC area and enjoyed the occasional happy hour or night out with fellow Hokie Alumni, including Robbie.  Pete has since moved to Philadelphia, but the years of Hokie football talk over drinks spawned Two Deep.

Pete's family lives close by in his home state of Delaware, his sisters are dedicated Two Deep listeners, and he is the proud uncle of two future Hokies (hopefully).

Pete's take on Two Deep: "This is exactly what I want to be doing with my spare time.  When Robbie asked me to start a VT podcast with him, I jumped at the chance.  I love the Hokies and now all the time I spend watching, reading, and talking about them can be put to good use."
